Pre-Arrival Information

It's almost that time and as you'll soon be joining us at Sugar Bay, we wanted to share some information to make your stay as comfortable as possible!

If you have any questions or need assistance, please let us know - we are here to help.

Traveling to the Resort

Taxis are readily available when you exit the arrivals hall, but if you prefer to pre-book, just let us know and our concierge we would be happy to arrange for you.

The cost of a meet & greet airport to resort transfer is US$40.00 for 1 - 4 people and US$55.00 or 5-6 people. If your luggage exceeds the capacity of the vehicle, an additional charge will apply. Please request at least 24 hours in advance.

Check-in

Check-in time is 4pm. Early check-in is subject to the availability of your room, so it can only be guaranteed if the room is booked from the previous night.

Our Hospitality Lounge is complimentary and available to our guests who arrive early (or have a late departure). In these circumstances, we can store your luggage so that there is no delay in getting your holiday started.

The resort requires a security deposit of US$200.00 per room(cash or credit card authorization) at check-in, which will only be charged if there are damages or incidents.

Accessibility

We are not a fully accessible property. Most public areas and our Oceanfront Collection are accessible by elevator, however, our two specialty restaurants, Sizzle Steakhouse and Umi are only accessible by stairs. If you have serious mobility challenges, please let us know in advance and we will do our best to arrange a ground/low floor for you.

We appreciate your understanding that mobility challenges are given priority over location preferences.

*Harbour Lights Dinner Show - A fabulous night of Bajan culture through music, entertainment, food & drinks.

Budget Friendly Ideas

There are also great experiences that are completely free!  Here are a few we recommend:

*Watching the racehorses bathing at Pebbles Beach early in the morning

*A stroll along the South Coast Boardwalk

*Visit a Rum Shop for an authentic Bajan experience

*Rihanna's childhood home on Rihanna Drive

*Visiting our capital Bridgetown - a UNESCO World Heritage Site

*Horseracing at the Garrison Savanna

Getting Around

Consider hiring a car and exploring at your own pace - just remember that in Barbados, we drive on the left. Car rental companies will provide a driver's permit for a nominal fee.

Another great option for getting around is public transport. Buses are easy to use and cost just US $1.75 or BD$3.50 per trip. Having exact change (in BD$) is recommended and the nearest bus stop is right outside the resort.

When taking public transport, pay attention to the bus pole signs. Bus poles say either ‘Bus to City’ or ‘Bus Out of City'. If you’re lost, (which isn’t the worst thing in Barbados) follow the bus signs to Bridgetown and go from there.

In the Area

The South Coast Boardwalk is one of the best locations for a nice outdoor walk/run, a cold beer, casual food and beach hopping.

Hastings Farmers Market at Artsplash Cafe is always worth a visit with a variety of local products, produce and souvenirs are on sale.

La Tienda - Gift Shop

La Tienda, our lovely gift shop is located in our lobby and here you will find a wonderful selection of snacks, juices, wine, hygiene essentials, beachwear, sunblock, souvenirs, Sugar Bay branded clothing and more! For your conveience, all items can be charged to your room.

Miscellaneous Info

- Barbados' water supply is one of the cleanest in the world. You can safely drink from the tap.

- Mosquitoes are a reality in the tropics. We will do our part to keep them at bay, but suggest that while on the island you consider using a repellant.

- There is a downside to aloe vera - it stains everything. Please avoid the use of Aloe while at the resort.

- Barbados has strict drug laws. While recreational or medicinal use is now permitted in many countries, be aware that it is still illegal Barbados.

- Unless you’re in the military, camouflage in any form is illegal in Barbaddos and can result in confiscation of the item and fines of up to US$5000.00.

Currency

US Dollars, British Pounds and Euros can be exchanged at our front desk between 7:00am and 5:00pm daily or at any bank on the island.

US Dollars (bills only) are the only foreign currency that will be accepted anywhere on the island and the exchange rate is fixed at approximately $2.00 Barbados Dollars to $1.00 US Dollar. However, note that you will always receive your change in Barbados Dollars.

When departing, Barbados Dollars can be exchanged for foreign currency at the airport.

Smoking

Smoking under covered areas is against the law in Barbados. All of our rooms & balconies, restaurants, lobby and other covered spaces are non-smoking - this includes e-cigarettes and vaping.

Safety

Barbados is one of the safest places you can visit, but remember to be as mindful of your surroundings and belongings as you would when travelling anywhere else in the world.

Bajans

Barbadians (Bajans) are very friendly and polite so more often than not, they greet you in passing and are usually willing to help you when you're in need of assistance. Prepare to make a few new Bajan friends during your time in Barbados!
